Culturally responsive STEAM learning, including digital literacy initiatives and supporting resources, helping communities create pathways to wellbeing through sustainable and inclusive growth.
Work we support
STEAM learning for children and youth:
Children/Youth Programming: Kindergarten to grade 12 STEAM Summer camps, afterschool programs, classroom and community instructional visits
We’re working to create and support a Canada-wide Makerspace Network for youth in rural, remote, Northern and Indigenous communities. Led by Ampere we are raising funds to support makerspaces located in Ontario (Lindsay, and Curve Lake), and Nunavut (Iqaluit, Cambridge Bay, Gjoa Haven, Kimmirut, Pond Inlet and Sanirajak). These Makerspaces serve as community hubs for education and connections through technology, resources and programming. Makerspaces offer year-round learning opportunities for people of all ages in a variety of modalities including: curriculum-based learning modules for in-person, self-led, and virtually facilitated sessions.
Education Toolkits:
Through lesson plans, and hands-on activities, resources, and tools/technology, we support the development and sharing of STEAM kits to provide everything needed to enhance educator and community access to STEAM learning opportunities. These kits are distributed to schools and other community locations to provide hands-on activities and digital resources, tools and technology to deliver lesson plans.
Participant Subsidies: Camp Registration
Provides children/youth in financial need the ability to experience 1 week of STEAM Creator Camps and afterschool programs at no cost
STEAM learning for young adults, workers and Elders/older adults:
Older Youth, Adult and Senior/Elder Programming – Foundational and Functional Digital Skills and Career Skills:
We support the development and delivery of digital skills and career curriculums, to equip individuals with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to thrive in STEAM careers and beyond. We work with private and public partners to support paid, real world related experiences and mentorship.
Danielle Moore Scholarship Fund:
An academic scholarship for Nunavut youth and adults, The Danielle Moore Scholarship Fund was created in honour of a beloved and passionate teacher and friend, Danielle Moore who dedicated her life to education, and the environment and wove technology and digital skills into everything she did. We raise funds to increase the impact and sustainability of this scholarship.
STEAM infrastructure:
We recognize that rural, remote and Indigenous communities experience a gap in accessing STEAM education that is exacerbated by a drastic infrastructure deficit in these same communities. Both issues contribute to the “digital divide” – whether it is access to broadband internet, significantly overcrowded housing, lack of safe and welcoming community program spaces or numerous other factors, the Pinnguaq Foundation understands that STEAM learning requires safe and inclusive in-person spaces. As a result we seek funding to help build, renovate and open community STEAM spaces. Such spaces are driven by community need and can take many forms from a dedicated community building to learning spaces in existing facilities like schools and libraries. Examples of projects in include:
• New Community Hub in Iqaluit, Nunavut: In 2026, we will begin a capital campaign to build a vibrant new tech hub in Iqaluit, Nunavut, to meet the growing need for STEAM and workforce development programming for youth and adults living in remote areas of the North.
• Makerspace in Lindsay, Ontario: With our rapid expansion in recent years, we have recently acquired a new 13,248 square foot facility in Lindsay, ON. Our new Makerspace is triple the size of our prior space and allows for more camps and after-school programs for children and youth, workforce training programs, programs supporting seniors and people living with disabilities, parent and educator programs, and drop-in programs for learners of all ages. Participants in Lindsay Makerspace and programming supported out of the space are predominantly from equity-seeking groups facing barriers to STEAM learning and associate well-being. Donations towards our new building helps with the renovation materials and equipment costs. We envision the Makerspace as a vibrant cultural hub of downtown Lindsay.
STEAM spaces in communities:
We strive to work with communities in designing, developing and seeking funding for their STEAM learning spaces. We are open to working with funders who want to support creation of STEAM learning spaces in specific communities by leveraging our knowledge and expertise in supporting STEAM and leveraging investment.
STEAM Innovation/Social Enterprise:
The Pinnguaq Foundation strives to be innovative and sustainability-focused in our approach to fund development. This means we work internally as well as with partners like Ampere to develop innovative STEAM products and services that are both aligned with our mission and vision, and revenue-generating. This allows us to achieve the maximum amount of impact for our communities while making the most efficient use of funder contributions.
With this approach we stand out as exceptional stewards of the impact investments entrusted to us. Innovation and social enterprise efforts include:
• Investments in product development such as STEAM kits, learning resources and training workshops that spread STEAM knowledge and generate revenue for reinvestment in our mission. You can donate funds toward the development of STEAM products and/or purchase these products to be donated to communities, providing financial support for the Pinnguaq Foundation while also providing STEAM learning resources for end recipients.
• Purchasing of STEAM products helps spread STEAM skills broadly while revenue generated is reinvested in rural, remote and Indigenous communities resulting in direct impact;
• You can also donate your industry expertise to help guide us in product innovation and development, resulting in more successful and sustainable social enterprise products.
